Miles (SKM)
“She Kills Monsters tells the story of high schooler Agnes Evans as she deals with the death of her younger sister, Tilly. When Agnes stumbles upon Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook, she finds herself catapulted into a journey of discovery and action-packed adventure in the imaginary world that was her sister’s refuge… This high-octane dramatic comedy by acclaimed playwright Qui Nguyen offers a heart-pounding homage to the geek and warrior within us all.” - All About Theatre
The character of Miles is a supporting character to his partner/girlfriend, Agnes. He is a caring man, but doesn’t know how to reach Agnes during this intense period of grief she is experiencing due to the premature death of her sister. He doesn’t understand DnD culture and worries that Agnes is doing something drastic in response to her grief. The role required lots of stunt/fight choreography, intimacy training and a deep understanding of toxic masculinity in order to have Miles not appear cold/aloof. Ultimately, Miles represents the part of Agnes that is deeply uncomfortable not being apart of the mainstream culture. So, through his coming to terms with Agnes’ new grieving process, he, Agnes and we- the audience- confront the part of ourselves that is scared of change and embracing the unknown.

Miles observes Tilly's room as Agnes tidies up, until he sees an old action figure of Tilly's. He observes how nerdy it is, an ignorant, oblivious attempt to give the situation levity

Miles kisses Agnes goodbye despite wanting her to let him into her grieving process. He gives the kiss every bit of love he has so she might realize she's not alone in her grief.

Miles mistakes Chuck's job as Agnes' DM for that of a S&M Dungeon Master, causing him to think Agnes is cheating on him. He then flies into a rage, attacking Chuck.

Miles' attempt to beat up Chuck does NOT go as planned.

The Gelatinous Cube, one of the Big Bads of New Land, takes on the form of Miles- as a Barbarian. The Cube and Agnes commence a duel in order for the group to save Tilly's soul.

Miles is projecting his anger at Agnes for not talking to him about her sister on Steve, a student of Ms. Agnes.

Miles, finally overcoming his anxieties with DnD, puts everything on the line in order to finally get let in by Agnes as she progresses through her grieving process.
